The Australian Government has introduced the Group Training Organisation Reimbursement Program (GTO Reimbursement Program), aimed at supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that host Australian Apprentices in high-priority occupations.
Commenced on 1 January 2025, the program seeks to alleviate the costs associated with engaging Australian Apprentices for SMEs that have not directly employed or hosted an apprentice through a Group Training Organisation (GTO) in the past two years.
Key Features of the Program:
- Each eligible placement will receive a payment valued at $100 per week, up to a maximum of $5,200 (GST inclusive) over 52 weeks.
- Payments will be made directly to GTOs to reduce service fees or charge-out rates for eligible SMEs.
- The program will support 400 placements nationally, operating on a first-come, first-served basis
- 20% of the 400 reimbursed placements will be reserved for women Australian Apprentices, ensuring greater support for gender diversity in priority industries.
The program specifically targets Australian Apprentices training towards qualifications and occupations listed on the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List, helping to address critical skills shortages across the nation.
This initiative provides a significant opportunity for SMEs to support skills development while reducing financial barriers, enabling them to play a vital role in fostering Australia’s future workforce.
