Asbestos in the utilities sector
Given the ageing utilities assets in Australia known to contain asbestos containing materials the importance of ensuring utilities workers are adequately trained in asbestos awareness is fundamental.
Currently there are over 27,000 operatives in the Electricity Supply Industry, Utilities and Telecommunications Sector that have a high risk of coming across asbestos containing material (ACMs) in their jobs. Improving awareness and guidance materials across the Utilities sectors will reduce the risk of asbestos-related incidents.
