ANZETA World Skills

On Friday July 5, electrical apprentices from across Australia gathered to compete in the WorldSkills Australia Regional ANZETA Electrical Apprentice Competition. This event provided a platform for apprentices to demonstrate their skills and knowledge by wiring a pre-defined installation according to circuit and equipment diagrams, showcasing the principles they have learned during their apprenticeships.

The competition aligns with the UEE30820 – Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician, the standard qualification for electrical apprenticeships. Participants vied for gold, silver, and bronze medals, with the winners earning the opportunity to compete in the National Competition in 2025.

The judging process was exceptionally challenging, with only half a point separating the top three competitors. Ultimately, Max Figgis from NECA Training & Apprenticeships in the ACT won the Gold Medal, Ky Knight from Electrogroup Queensland took home the Silver Medal, and Cooper Inns-Mexted, also from Electrogroup Queensland, earned the Bronze Medal.

Energy Skills Australia was a major partner in this event. CEO Mark Burgess highlighted the importance of such competitions in showcasing Australia’s talent and promoting excellence in the electrical trade. “Events like this not only highlight the exceptional skills of our apprentices but also foster a spirit of learning and growth within the industry,” he remarked.

Congratulations to all the participants and winners for their dedication and hard work, and best of luck to those advancing to the National Competition in 2025. A special thank you to the team at NECA Education and Careers for organising and hosting the competition in Victoria.
